- Hello fellow Cardinal users and wanna-be users!
-
- For those of us who have the Cardinal MVP288XV and others with the version 1.4 firmware (it
- came installed in mine) THERE IS a quick fix to activate the speaker under Windows95
- applications.
-
- As the manual states on page 26, using the ATM3 command in an init string will keep the
- speaker off during dialing (the touch tones), but WILL kick it on for the rings/busy signal, and
- especially during the connection of the carrier signal. Therefore, the speaker will work when
- we want it to most, to hear that lovely 28.8 connection being established (99% of the time with
- my ISP).
-
- Place the M3 command in your init string for Dial-Up Networking by viewing a connection's
- properites, click the modem Configure button, click the Connection tab, and click the
- Advanced... button. In the Extra settings box, type M3 along with the other commands you may
- have (W2 reports the DCE rate (28,800) instead of the default W0 (115,200) which you get every
- time anyway).
-
- Just edit the initialization strings in other Win95 apps to activate the speaker. BTW, the
- speaker works fine in other O/S's like DOS and Linux. I suppose the "feature" is a bug in the
- v1.4 code, or in the Windows95 driver.
-
- Good luck to all!
